What inspired you to start cycling, and what made you so passionate about it?

 

It all started as a way to lose weight. About 10 years ago, I felt my body slowing down and tried running, but I gave up after just three days. A friend then suggested cycling.
I was already familiar with the fun of cycling, as I used to commute on a BMX. But when I started road biking, I became hooked on the sense of achievement from covering longer distances. As I participated in regional events, I made friends and realized that cycling is a “tool for connecting people,” which deepened my passion even more!

 

 

What do you see as the biggest benefits of cycling?

 

Cycling lets you reach deep and off-the-beaten-path places that cars can’t. Even here in Hiji Town, there are countless landscapes that can only be experienced by bike. The tranquil streets of the old castle town, the gentle scenery of the countryside, and the sparkling ocean views—all of these are best appreciated on two wheels.
For those who aren’t regular cyclists, I design my tours to help them discover new sights and enjoy unexpected surprises.

 

 

What do you focus on as a guide, and what kind of experiences do you hope to provide your guests?

 

I focus on tailoring tours to match each participant’s fitness level and interests. For beginners, I often incorporate e-bikes to make the experience enjoyable without overexertion. Safety is also a top priority so that everyone can join the tour with peace of mind.
One unique aspect of my tours is that they cover the entire Kunisaki Peninsula. While based in Hiji Town, I integrate the surrounding area’s charms into the routes, allowing participants to visit not only well-known attractions but also hidden local spots.
Each route is carefully crafted after extensive trial runs to ensure the best possible experience for participants. This preparation provides a solid foundation for safe and enjoyable tours. Hearing feedback like, “I never imagined cycling as a form of sightseeing could be so fun!” truly makes my day.

 

 

How do you make the tours enjoyable and approachable for all participants?

 

Many of my guests join as couples or spouses, so I pay special attention to ensuring women have a good time. I incorporate e-bikes and design sightseeing-focused routes that are enjoyable without being physically demanding.
In fact, some participants have become so enamored with cycling after my tours that they bought their own bikes! Helping people discover the joy of cycling gives me a real sense of purpose.
